Kicking Horse Mountain Resort boasts 4,133 feet of vertical spread over 2750 acres. With 106 runs, 70 inbound chutes, luxury mountain top dining, and a wide variety of winter activities.
In 2000/01, a tiny local hill with lifts only on the lower slopes was transformed by a new gondola rising 1150m/3,770ft to the top of high, powdery bowls and chutes. In 2002 came a new quad chair-lift (although slow) serving more high slopes. Now a few lodges have opened to form the first stage of a mountain village at the lift base. The resort suits experts best and makes a good day trip from Banff or Lake Louise for them and adventurous intermediates. But it's a shame there's no gondola mid-station so that you could ski the top half repeatedly without depending on less reliably good snow below.back to top
